By kind courtesy of the Thomson family, a private visit to the home of the National Collection of Narcissus - Backhouse Heritage Daffodils (1869-1962) - which caused a sensation in their day, winning prestigious prizes, and changing daffodil raising in this country for ever. After coffee in the indoor show marquee with the specimen daffodils, Caroline Thomson will give an illustrated talk on her Quaker Backhouse forebears, their botanical and banking history and their dedication to the development of daffodil cultivars. After lunch, explore the Victorian walled garden and the recently formed Scree & Rock Garden with its plants from the historic Backhouse nursery. Wander to the ruined covenanter’s grave in the woodland walk and visit the Backhouse Heritage Exhibition & Education Centre.
