In 2011 The Church Commissioners put the Zurbaran paintings in Auckland Castle on sale for £15m.

Soon afterwards the financier Jonathan Ruffer announced he would buy them and keep them in situ. He has gone on to preside over an extraordinary programme to reinvigorate Bishop Auckland with Art being a principal theme.

It is a privilege to have Jonathan as the guest speaker at this lecture. He will discuss the mission and progress of the project prior to the opening of the Faith Museum and the Spanish Gallery later in the year.

This event has been organised by the Durham and Cleveland Fundraising Committee Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
