Sue Rollin will tell the group about Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, Lady Hester Stanhope and Jane Digby who ventured into the Near East when travelling beyond Western Europe was very much a male preserve. Visiting the ruins of Palmyra, assisting with their husbands' archaeological work and marrying a sheikh respectively, they scandalized London society.

Sue Rollin is an archaeologist, historian and linguist with 30 years' experience in leading tours to Central Asia, India and countries round the Mediterranean and lecturing to a wide variety of organisations.
