The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Divine Wisdom (Hagia Sophia) SOLD OUT

Visit | The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Divine Wisdom (Hagia Sophia)

Saturday 17 March 2018 - 11:30 until 13:00

London’s Greek Orthodox cathedral, Hagia Sophia, consecrated in 1882, is Grade I listed and filled with glittering mosaics, brightly coloured paintings, delicate stonework and unique ecclesiastical furnishings. Its contemporary depiction of saints and monumental iconostasis are paired with the grand architectural vision of John Oldrid Scott. Part of the Byzantine Revival style that swept through Europe and North America in the later half of the 19th century, Hagia Sophia provided a

much-needed religious home for London’s Greek Orthodox population. Ayla Lepine, a specialist in Arts and Crafts churches, offers an introductory talk.

This event has been organised by the London Events Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
