Visit and Talk | Friends Meeting House

Friday 9 March 2018 - 18:30 until 21:00

An illustrated talk on The Pre-Raphaelites in Tuscany: A Victorian Love Affair with Italy, given by Dr Suzanne Fagence Cooper

This lecture follows in the footsteps of the Victorian artists, notably Burne- Jones, who fell in love with the world of Dante and Botticelli. It shows how these encounters challenged and reinvigorated the art of 19th century England.Suzanne is the Research Curator at York Art Gallery for the 2019 exhibition, 'Turner, Ruskin and the Storm Cloud of the Modern World’; there will also be a major exhibition about Burne-Jones at Tate, in Autumn 2018.

This event has been organised by the North Yorkshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
