Castle Howard at Christmas
Special Event | Castle Howard
Tuesday 28 November 2017 - 10:45 until 15:00
A special event-filled day at Castle Howard to anticipate the coming festive season and to see Yorkshire’s only baroque palace decked out for Christmas. The "Angels on High" theme has been created specifically for Castle Howard by Charlotte Lloyd Webber and Brette Gerecke, two well-known theatre set designers. The flamboyance and visual drama of their inspired vision will make "Angels on High" a unique and unforgettable experience. As well as this innovative and striking Christmas theme, visitors can also enjoy Castle Howard favourites including the immense 25ft-dressed Christmas tree in the Great Hall and the gingerbread house (first seen last year). Especially for the Art Fund Dr Chris Ridgeway, Castle Howard’s charismatic curator will give a talk on The Pre-Raphaelites and Castle Howard. This lecture reflects the “make-over” of the house by the likes of William Morris and Edward Burne-Jomes by the artistic 9th Earl. Dr Ridgeway has also offered as a special treat to display relevant archive material for Art Fund members.
If this isn't enough, there will be a Christmas market with 15 hand picked stalls selling sweet and savoury confectionery and many gift ideas and opportunities. Lunch is available at own cost at one of the several eateries.
Own transport. Meet 10.45 in the Christmas Marquee. Lecture 11.00am. Sat Nav YO60 7DA
This event has been organised by the West Yorkshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
