Gold in the Gilbert Collection by Timothy Schroder
Lecture | Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery
Thursday 19 October 2017 - 13:00 until 16:00
Timothy Schroder is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and was formerly Curator of the Gilbert Collection at Somerset House, consultant curator at the Victoria & Albert Museum, a Prime Warden of the Goldsmiths' Company, a former Chairman of the Silver Society and trustee of the Wallace Collection.
He will talk on the fascinating Gilbert Collection, now on display in newly refurbished galleries in the V & A and considered one of Britain's most exquisite and valuable collections. Shrewsbury Museum itself holds the Wroxeter Roman Mirror, as well as the earliest known (c.1337) example of hallmarked secular silver, the Shrewsbury Abbey Silver Bowl.
This event has been organised by the Shropshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
