The V&A’s exhibition ‘Opera: Passion, Power, and Politics’ presents operatic premieres in seven European cities, tracing the development of the art form across 400 centuries. This lecture examines Rossini’s and Verdi’s takes on Shakespeare’s Othello, from either end of the 19th century. Well-known writer, broadcaster and lecturer, David Nice, has written numerous books on opera and is the opera/classical music editor at theartsdesk.com.
