A Day in the City of London – The Guildhall Gallery and The Charterhouse

Guided Tour | (Start at) Guildhall Art Gallery

Monday 2 October 2017 - 11:00 until 15:45

The tour will start at the Guildhall with a specialist guide who will take the group round the Art Collection, featuring paintings from 1670 to the present time, including a fine collection of pre-Raphaelite works. The tour will also include the ruins of the Roman Amphitheatre, rediscovered by archaeologists working on the site in 1988.

After lunch there will be a visit the Charterhouse, opened to public visits in January this year for the first time in 400 years, with a special behind the scenes tour led by a resident Brother. The Carthusian monastery was established in 1371 and after the dissolution became a private mansion and later, a school and almshouse. The buildings reflect its rich, fascinating and, at times, brutal history.

Please note that the day will involve a fair amount of walking and that the Charterhouse has some uneven floors and cobbled areas.

This event has been organised by the Cambridgeshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
