Collecting Caravaggesque Paintings in Britain

Lecture | Town House

Tuesday 5 September 2017 - 18:30 until 20:15

This talk by Aidan Weston-Lewis, Chief Curator at the Scottish National Gallery, will examine the taste for Caravaggesque pictures among British collectors. It will focus initially on the Stuart court of Charles I, before shifting to the early nineteenth century which saw the arrival of the only significant group of Caravaggesque paintings ever to come to Scotland - more specifically, to East Lothian!

This event has been organised by the Lothians Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
