Gilling Castle & Ampleforth College - Sold out

Tour | Gilling Castle

Wednesday 23 August 2017 - 10:45 until 15:30

Meet at Gilling Castle for a tour of this fascinating building, which is now the Prep School of Ampleforth College. Originally a 14th century castle, it was transformed by the Fairfaxes in the 1580s into an Elizabethan Manor and then into an elegant 18th century country house with fine plaster work by Guiseppe Cortese.

After the tour there will be a soup and sandwich lunch, and the chance to sample the famous Ampleforth apple cake in the magnificent 1585 Great Chamber. It is a short drive to Ampleforth College for a guided tour, followed by time to visit the Abbey shop, Visitor Centre & Tea Room.

This event has been organised by the York & East Yorkshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
