Mertoun House and Dryburgh Abbey

Visit | Full address on booking

Tuesday 13 June 2017 - 09:00 until 18:30

By kind permission of the Duke & Duchess of Sutherland.

This is a special opportunity to visit Mertoun House at St Boswell the home of the Duke and Duchess of Sutherland. The house is not open to the general public and the Strathclyde committee are very grateful to the Duke and Duchess for agreeing to this visit. While the finest paintings from the Sutherland Collection are on loan to the National Galleries of Scotland, Mertoun still contains a spectacular collection of paintings. Two major Titians, originally on loan, have been bought by the National Galleries of Scotland and the National Gallery jointly with the support of Art Fund. The collection originally derives from the collection of the Duc D’Orlean at the Palais Royale in Paris at the beginning of the 18th century.

Visit Dryburgh Abbey in the morning and have lunch at the Buccleuch Arms in St Boswell before visiting Mertoun House in the afternoon.

The tour leaves North Hanover Street at 9am and returns around 6.30pm.

This event has been organised by the Strathclyde Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
