Joan Eardley: A Private View
Special Event | Huddersfield Art Gallery
Saturday 3 June 2017 - 11:15 until 13:15
Joan Eardley, described recently as one of the most memorable artists in modern Scotland, deserves to be better known. Yorkshire is fortunate to have two of her works in the permanent collection at Huddersfield Art Gallery. The splendid show, currently in Edinburgh at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, is doing much to raise her profile nationally.
This event takes the form of a promenade performance in Huddersfield Art Gallery, followed by a discussion with the actors. The show provides new insights into Eardley's life and work through an unusual route - the theatre performance has been designed especially for art gallery spaces. Joan Eardley: A Private View has been researched, developed and written by Yorkshire-based Heroica Theatre Company. The discussion after the show, with cast members, will be a chance to find out about their approach and how their passion for her work led to the creation of the play - along with the practical challenges of putting on performances in art galleries. Discussions will be chaired by Lynne Green, an independent curator and art historian with detailed knowledge of mid/late 20th century British art.
Own transport. Pay and display parking, and multi-storey in vicinity.
This event has been organised by the West Yorkshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
