The Painted Monasteries of Moldavia are remarkable, unique survivals from the 15th and 16th centuries. They are rightly famous for the frescoes that stem from the Orthodox Byzantine tradition, as well as for their architectural ensembles. The frescoes cover the entire walls of several monastery churches, the exteriors as well as their interiors, and still maintain their wonderfully vivid colours and details.
