Eightieth anniversary lecture with Lord Smith of Finsbury

Lecture | The Bowes Museum

Friday 17 March 2017 - 11:15 until 15:00

This event is to celebrate 80 years of Art Fund support for The Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle. In 1937 The Bowes Museum acquired a painting A Moorland Road by Sir Charles John Holmes, bought with £195 - the full asking price. The latest acquisition is also a painting, St.Luke Drawing the Virgin and Child, 1440-1445 by Dieric Bouts with help from an Art Fund grant of £260,000. Lord Smith of Finsbury, Art Fund Chairman, will talk about museums and their future, with specific reference to The Bowes Museum.

This event has been organised by the Durham and Cleveland Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
