University of Bristol Theatre Collection

Tour | Bristol University, Theatre Collection

20 February 2017
20 March 2017 - 11:00 until 13:00

The Theatre Collection, despite being centrally located, is another of the hidden gems of Bristol. The organisers are delighted that the curators have organised two separate, bespoke small group tours of the collection in February and March for Art Fund. The archive is the second largest archive in the country dedicated to British theatre history, and includes The Mander & Mitchenson Theatre Collection and the personal archive of Oliver Messel (recently awarded a large grant for cataloguing). The tour will start with an introduction to the history, background and ethos of the collection. There will be a focus on the design and artwork collections which provide a context for the creative process of theatre. This will be followed by a tour of the collection, including the strong rooms (not normally open to the public), which will include examples of portraiture and design. This is a must for anyone interested in the theatre, and the creative processes and artwork associated with it.

This event has been organised by the Bristol and Bath Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
