Lecture and afternoon tea - eleven decades of modern art
Talk | The Kippington Centre
Tuesday 14 February 2017 - 13:45
Elizabeth Strang, a renowned Tate Britain and Tate Modern guide and lecturer, will give this illustrated talk on Eleven Decades of Modern Art – from Cézanne to Ai Wei Wei (with a few digressions on the way).
What has happened to Modern Art since Impressionism was pioneered by Manet? There has been Cubism, Futurism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, Pop and Minimalism, to mention but a few movements, but what do they all mean? Liz will take an iconic work from each decade of the 20th century and the start of the 21st century and show how that work is linked to past movements, either as a rebellion against or an extension of their ideas. Artists will include Picasso, Dali, Nash, Moore, Chris Ofili and many more.
Coffee will be available from 1.45pm, and the talk will be followed by afternoon tea, with home-made sandwiches, cakes and biscuits.
This event has been organised by the Kent Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
