Holderness Churches - Sold out
Visit | Welwick, Patrington, Winestead, Halsham
27, 28 September 2016 - 10:00 until 12:30
The group will visit the parish churches of Welwick, Patrington, Winestead and Halsham, meeting at Welwick Parish Hall at 10am for coffee and cake. The group will then visit, on foot, St Mary’s Church, Welwick with its associations with the Gunpowder Plot and the remarkable monument to a priest. From Welwick the group will drive to Patrington where the exquisite Queen of Holderness, St Patrick’s church, dominates the little market town. From there by car to the hidden St Germain’s, Winestead, a church of great interest with its monuments to the Hildyard family. The visit will finish at another hidden church, this time at Halsham, the original burial place of the Constables of Burton Constable, with a fascinating blend of medieval and 18th century building. This tour is being run on two days to keep numbers at a comfortable level.
Please note there is ample parking at Welwick Parish Hall. Welwick is two miles south east of Patrington, on the B1445 on the road to Spurn Point.
This event has been organised by the York & East Yorkshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
