Dr. Kate Giles, who is closely involved in a project to conserve the nationally important 15th century frescoes in Pickering Church, will give a talk on the fascinating history of these paintings explaining why they were made, how they were hidden after the Reformation, rediscovered in the 19th century and then nearly obliterated before surviving today in a fragile condition. After her talk, Jane Crease who has made a study of the 14th century alabaster monuments in the Church, which predate the frescoes, will explain their importance and significance.
