Painting the town: Scottish urban history in art

Lecture | Auchleish

Friday 1 July 2016 - 18:45 until 21:00

Annie Lyell is a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and Secretary of the Historic Burghs Association of Scotland. Her lecture is the result of her collaboration on a book of the same name published in 2013 to celebrate Scotland’s urban heritage before the days of photography.

Annie’s lecture will be illustrated with slides of paintings, etchings, engravings and cartographic images of various kinds. Not only do these show many buildings now demolished but they also depict a way of life gone by, sometimes in a very humorous fashion.

There will be wine and substantial canapés before the lecture, and more of both and something wickedly indulgent with your coffee afterwards!

This event has been organised by the Angus Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
