The collections of Catherine the Great by Edward Saunders
Talk | Danny House
Wednesday 1 June 2016 - 13:45 until 16:00
The innovation and vision of Catherine the Great and her inexhaustible passion for the arts meant that during her 34 year reign she created one of the worlds most impressive art collections now housed in the famed Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, Russia. Though she is most known for her collection of paintings by the greats such as Velazquez, Rubens, Van Dyck, Rembrandt and Titian she was also a great collector of sculpture, drawings, porcelain, silver, gold and precious gems.
Edward Saunders has kindly agreed to talk about the amazing collections of this great woman in the wonderful setting of Danny House in Hurstpierpoint, West Sussex.
As an added bonus, the super cook at Danny will make the cakes for afternoon tea.
This event has been organised by the Sussex Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
