Jon Schueler centenary exhibitions - Ullapool
Special Event | RhueArt Gallery
Wednesday 11 May 2016 - 10:30 until 15:00
American artist Jon Schueler came out of the Abstract Expressionism, New York. When he discovered the ever changing weather of the Western Highlands it started an intense love affair with the seascape and skies of, in particular, the Sound of Sleat which he painted over many years. His atmospheric skies, some turbulent and energetic, others sombre, are the synthesis of nature and abstraction.
A number of exhibitions are being held to celebrate the centenary of his birth and the group will be visiting two.
After viewing the Schueler exhibition Distillation of Light, James Hawkins will talk about landscape painting with reference to the exhibition and to his own work. This will be followed by lunch in RhueArt studios with it's fabulous views out to the Summer Isles.
After lunch, return to Ullapool to view the Schueler exhibition Light, Land and Sea at An Talla Solais, guided by a member of the gallery staff.
Assemble at the Ceilidh Place, Ullapool at 10.30am onwards, leaving for RhueArt Gallery at 11am. Car sharing is advised.
This event has been organised by the Highlands Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
