Castles and churches in Wensleydale - SOLD OUT

Coach Visit | Wensleydale

Thursday 5 May 2016 - 09:00 until 18:00

Travelling by coach from York, with a pick-up in Thirsk, the first stop will be Middleham, pausing for coffee before visiting The Church of St Mary and St Alkelda and the impressive remains of Middleham Castle. After lunch the group visit the Grade 1 listed Holy Trinity Church, Wensley, noted as much for its furnishings as its architecture. The next stop is to Wensleydale, to the magnificent 14th century Bolton Castle. From 1568–69 Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned here after her flight from Scotland. The group will tour the almost intact interior, including the rooms used by Mary, visit the re-created medieval garden and possibly watch a bird of prey display in the grounds before having tea and cake in the castle.

Please note the tour requires climbing some flights of steep stairs. Lunch is not included in the ticket price.

This event has been organised by the York & East Yorkshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
