Dinner with the Duke : pictures, silver and porcelain of the Dukes of Portland

Lecture | McCrum Lecture Theatre (Corpus Christi College)

Thursday 11 February 2016 - 18:30 until 20:00

Winter Open Lecture no. 3

Speaker: Philippa Glanville, OBE, FSA, Trustee of the Art Fund, former Keeper of Metalwork at the Victoria & Albert Museum

Many of the paintings, porcelain and silverware of the Dukes of Portland at Welbeck Abbey are owned by the nation through their tax exemption status, but hardly known. Dinner with a Duke explores the treasures of the collection, including a unique beer machine and an eighteenth-century recipe book written by the second Duchess, through the lives of various dukes and duchesses and their staff. A brand new gallery near Welbeck Abbey displaying a good selection of these treasures will open in 2016.

This event has been organised by the Cambridgeshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
