Three Sussex Downland Churches
Visit and Talk | St Mary's Church
Tuesday 27 October 2015 - 09:30 until 12:30
A stroll through the history and architecture of St Mary's Compton, St Peter's Racton, and St Mary's Stoughton. The churches date back to the Norman Conquest and beyond (although St Peter's, lost in the mists, is first recorded as the gift of Savaric fitz-Cane in 1142). The tour covers the part each church has played in local and, at one point, national events.
Lunch and coffee are not provided, but the tour will end about 12.30pm, a short distance from the Hare and Hounds in Stoughton.
The churches are a few miles apart so transport will be required.
Meet: 9.30am at the porch of St Mary's Compton. Parking is available in the village.
This event has been organised by the Hampshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
