Acton Court - 1535 - SOLD OUT
Guided Tour | Acton Court
Saturday 18 July 2015 - 14:30
This event is now fully booked.
Acton Court is a hidden gem, just north of Bristol, and close to the village of Iron Acton, with an historic walled garden. The Bristol and Bath Committee are very pleased to offer a tour of this early Tudor house led by the leading archaeology expert for this site, Rob Bell. He will talk through the evolution of the house as the group explore the house and gardens. Iron Acton was visited by Henry Tudor and Anne Boleyn, and as part of the preparations for their visit, painters from the Holbein studios executed a wall fresco which can still be seen. You will find out about the house’s medieval roots, its links with the Poyntz family, and its later uses, including as a cheese factory!
On arrival, you will be able to sit or explore the garden and enjoy light refreshments, before joining the tour. A very pleasant way to spend a summer’s afternoon.
Please note there is one set of fairly steep stairs.
This event has been organised by the Bristol and Bath Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
