Private visit and talk about the WW1 Balcombe murals

Talk and Tour | Victory Hall

Wednesday 13 May 2015 - 10:30 until 13:00

Featured in Channel 4’s Not Forgotten series, Ian Hislop drew attention to the magnificence of the little known frescoes in Balcombe’s Victory Hall.

These splendid murals were painted by Neville Lytton, member of the distinguished artistic Lytton family and they were greatly influenced by Lytton’s WWI experiences, both in the trenches when he was wounded and also as a war correspondent.

This exclusive private visit will be introduced by a local expert who will give a short talk on the history of the murals. Then, Crawley Museum Curator, Helen Poole will talk about the life and times of the Lytton family.

Coffee and home made cakes will be taken beforehand at the Balcombe Tea Rooms, opposite the Victory Hall from 10:15am.
