Concert at St James, Packington

Special Event | St James Church,

Wednesday 13 May 2015 - 19:30 until 21:30

Join the Warwickshire Art Fund Committee for a unique opportunity; a recital on the authentic 18th century chamber organ at the private chapel of St James, Packington, preceded by an introductory talk. St James is located in the parkland of Packington Hall and is rarely available for public functions. By kind permission of Lady Aylesford.

Christopher Pickford will give the introductory talk and is currently revising the Packington entry in Pevsner's Warwickshire in the light of latest theories on the architectural and social context of this remarkable church built in 1789 in celebration of the return to sanity of King George III.

Peter Gregory will perform a recital on the organ built to a specification written in a letter by Handel in 1749. His programme will be from the English and German composers of the 17th & 18th centuries, e.g. Stanley and Greene, plus Handel, CPE Bach and Pachelbel.

Refreshments will be available in the church from 7.00pm; proceedings will begin at 7.30pm.

Please note that toilet facilities are located at Packington Hall, ½ mile from the church.
