Chinese Imperial Court Costume

Study Day | Memus Hall

Tuesday 10 March 2015 - 11:00 until 15:00

An Introduction to the Quing Dynasty, its Imperial Court and the forbidden city.

David Rosier will use slides and examples from the Wendy & David Rosier Collection of embroideries to guide us through the symbolism of the Imperial wardrobe. He will describe the methods of silk production and the Imperial workshops as well as illustrating the informal costumes of the members of the Court, the social elite and their children. The group will see wonderful examples of decorative collars, sleeve panels, belt hangings, shoes and textiles as well as some amazing kingfisher jewellery.
