Changing Faces: 500 Years of Portraiture
Lecture | St Andrew's Parish Hall
Tuesday 25 November 2014 - 16:30 until 19:00
This popular lecture and social event provides a good opportunity to meet other Art Fund members.
500 years of Portraiture are explored in this lecture by eminent art historian, Sarah Kelly, who has held posts at the National Gallery and in Brussels. From the piety of Memling's fifteenth century images and the emphasis on status and wealth in Van Dyck's Baroque vision of the court of Charles I, right through to the post-Second World War years when Francis Bacon's paintings of popes express life in a world without God, the meaning of portraits is constantly changing.
The lecture is preceded by a sumptuous tea of sandwiches and home-made cakes.
This event has been organised by the Warwickshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
