Birmingham Silver Collection and Library at the Birmingham Assay Office

Formed in 1773, Birmingham Assay Office is the largest in the world. It is situated on the edge of Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter, a short walking distance from New Street station.
Our visit starts with a talk on the history of hallmarking and on the different processes employed by the Birmingham Assay office. This is followed by a tour of the Silver Collection and a unique opportunity to handle rare items from the collection. We end with a tour of the Assay Office Library , which contains rare collection of books and manuscripts.. Every visitor receives a copy of the Silver Collection booklet.
