St Paul's Cathedral and Marlborough House
Tour | St Paul's Cathedral/Marlborough House
Monday 25 November 2013 - 11:00 until 16:00
There are guided tours of both St Paul's Cathedral and Marlborough House. St Paul's, Wren's masterpiece, is an outstanding example of English Baroque architecture and has been the scene of many national and state occasions. The tour will cover the floor of the cathedral, highlighting the architecture, art and will include access to areas not open to the general public.
Marlborough House was one of Wren's last works, built for Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough (who instructed it should not resemble Blenheim Palace!) In the 19th century it became the home of Edward, Prince of Wales and more recently was the last home of Queen Mary. The visit will take in the Fine Room and the history of the house will be told through the murals, paintings, tapestries and sculptures.
This event has been organised by a local supporter group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
