The Assyrian Arts of War

Talk | The Wallace Collection

Thursday 17 October 2013 - 14:30 until 15:30

Late Assyrian art flourished from the 9th century BC until the end of the Assyrian state empire in the late 7th century BC. This art is represented in the monumental stone relief decoration of Assyrian palaces, and it was in this medium, with its focus on the achievements of the Assyrian king and state, that it made its greatest impact when first recovered in the mid-19th century. Nigel Tallis, Curator (Later Mesopotamia) at the British Museum will examine the arts of Assyria and the interaction between conflict, power and ideology in the evolution of the arts of 'reality.'

This event has been organised by a local supporter group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
