Hermitage at Houghton
Coach Visit | Houghton Hall
Tuesday 20 August 2013 - 08:30 until 18:00
This is an once in a lifetime opportunity to view the magnificent art collection of Britain's first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole, sold to Catherine the Great in 1779. The collection is returning from Russia for the first time to Houghton Hall, Norfolk, for a few months this year and there will be a private tour of the 70 paintings re-hung in their original positions. In the afternoon the visit will continue to a nearby private house built 1575-1578 not normally open to the public, where the owner will give a private tour.
This event has been organised by a local supporter group to raise money for the Art Fund.
