The Lindisfarne Gospels in Durham

Private View | Palace Green Library and Exhibition Centre

Wednesday 10 July 2013 - 18:15 until 21:30

This major exhibition brings together many superb examples of Anglo-Saxon scholarship and craftsmanship. The Lindisfarne Gospel is famed as one of the greatest landmarks of human cultural achievement. This is shown alongside St Cuthbert's Gospel, Europe's oldest book and recently purchased for the nation with assistance from the Art Fund. They will be on display together with other treasures from St Cuthbert's coffin.

The visit will be followed by a short talk and discussion with Professor Richard Gameson of Durham University, an expert in early book production. Light refreshments will be served in the nearby St Chad's College.

This event has been organised by a local supporter group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
