Birstwith Hall and Farnley Hall

Guided Tour | Birstwith Hall

Thursday 6 June 2013 - 09:00 until 18:00

Birstwith Hall is the home of Sir James and Lady Aykroyd and this is an opportunity to tour the attractive gardens, including visiting the ornamental orchard, extensive lawns, picturesque stream and Victorian greenhouse.

Following a picnic lunch, the visit continues to Farnley Hall, the home of the Fawkes family since the thirteenth century. The original Elizabethan house was added to in the late 1780s by John Carr of York. JMW Turner stayed as a guest of Walter Fawkes on a number of occasions. Whilst visiting he painted many watercolours of the hall and of the lower Wharfedale region, some of which are still owned by the family and will be on show.

Places on the trip strictly limited.

This event has been organised by a local supporter group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
