Govan Old Church and Scotland Street School Museum

Coach Visit | Govan Old Church

Wednesday 8 May 2013 - 08:15

Govan Old Church is a hidden gem built on the oldest Christian site in Glasgow, dating back to the 4th century. The church itself is still in use for daily worship and features wonderful stained glass windows by Charles Kempe, as well as an amazing collection of 9th-11th century carved stones. One of the Friends will give a guided tour.

After lunch the tour will continue to the Scotland Street School which was Charles Rennie Mackintosh's last major commission in Glasgow. The building, still in use as a school until 1979, has impressive leaded glass towers, unique stonework and a magnificent tiled entrance.

This event has been organised by a local supporter group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
