The Fourth Crusade

The spring of 1204 saw the siege and sack of Constantinople, capital city of the Byzantine Empire, by Christian armies of the 4th crusade. Byzantine chroniclers reported scenes of looting are carnage. Dr Sally Dormer will explore how it exerted a significant influence on the visual arts, inspiring and delighting craftsmen and patrons throughout Western Europe.
