St Mary the Virgin, Almshouses & School

Guided Tour | St Mary the Virgin Church

Wednesday 24 April 2013 - 14:00 until 16:30

St Mary the Virgin, Ewelme is an exceptional church, owing much of its present form to Thomas Chaucer, Governor of Wallingford Castle, 5 times Speaker of the House of Commons and the son of the poet, Geoffrey Chaucer, who lived in Ewelme, and to his daughter, Alice, whose third husband was William de la Pole, Duke of Suffolk.

The Rector, Jonathan Meyer, will introduce the church, its history and contents, the delightful cloistered almshouses, the school and village. There will then be free time to explore.

This event has been organised by a local supporter group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
