Versailles and the Politics of Porcelain

Lecture | Les Cotils

Monday 8 October 2012 - 18:30

Peter le Rossignol will talk about the development of Versailles and Louis XIV’s desire to impose control over the aristocracy and the cultural life of the court. He took over the Sevres porcelain factory and personally sold pieces to his courtiers at fabulous prices. Under the influence of Madame de Pompadour, Boucher and other designers worked for this manufacture royale which produced its greatest work in the period to her death in 1764.

This event is organised by a local supporter group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
