Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire Churches

Coach Visit | Throughout Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire

Wednesday 12 September 2012 - 08:30

A coach will depart from Avalon Coaches, Glastonbury at 8.30am and Wincanton memorial Car Park at 9.30am.

Our tour will start at Bruton, one of Somerset's finest churches, where we can visit architecture from the 14th century to the 18th century. The church is full of interest, and we we will be served coffee and biscuits. Next stop will be Silton, 'the jewel in the crown of north Dorset churches' with an immensely imposing late 17th century memorial by John Nost. Stourton will complete our morning, overlooking the great garden with many Stourton and Hoare monuments. We will stop for a picnic lunch, with wine provided, in the coach or in the Maiden Bradley churchyard. The church itself is fascinating, but its highlight is the superlative reclining monument to Speaker Seymour of 1727, by Rysbrack. Our final stop will be Mere, one of the great Wiltshire churches. Tea will be served in the nearby church hall. Please make contributions for tea.

This event has been organised by a local supporter help group to raise money for the Art Fund.
