Constable Burton Hall and Gardens and Clifton Castle
Visit | Constable Burton Hall
Wednesday 23 May 2012 - 08:30 until 15:00
Constable Burton Hall is a handsome Palladian villa standing at the entrance to Wensleydale, North Yorkshire. Designed by the celebrated architect John Carr for Sir Marmaduke Wyvill, and completed in 1768, it is widely recognised as one of the finest medium-sized English houses built in the Palladian style.
Following lunch we will travel to Clifton Hall, a house of neo-classical design, built in 1802 on the site of the castle. It sits above the River Ure and has spectacular views of Wensleydale. Built in 1800 by John Foss of Richmond on the site of a fourteenth century castle. The Marquess of Downshire will give us an exclusive tour and there will be refreshments to follow.
