These two contrasting 18th century houses demonstrate various themes found within architecture and design during this period.
Strawberry Hill was Horace Walpole's highly imaginative excursion into Gothicism. Having been recently restored, this structure subsequently had a profound effect on architecture.
Marble Hill is a Villa based on Palladian principles and was promoted by the architecturally literate 9th Earl of Pembroke. Alongside the splendid architecture it Marble Hall houses a fascinating collection of Oriental artefacts including Chinese Wallpaper.
