The Royal Asiatic Society was formed in 1823 to encourage a wider knowledge of the culture, literature and art of Asia.

During its existence many distinguished scholars have contributed to its work, including noted explorer Sir Richard Burton and the first translator of the Arabian Nights and Kama Sutra. The Society has an important collection of prints and drawings which will form the basis for a lecture and tour.
