The Dance of Life
Talk and Tour | Glyndŵr University
Thursday 13 October 2011 - 19:15 until 21:00
In 1951, Mildrid Eldridge (1909–1991) was commissioned to paint six panels to hang in the Nurse's Dining Room at Gobowen Orthopaedic Hospital. The artist, who was the wife of the poet R S Thomas, took six years to complete the work which celebrated countryside, coastlines and man's relationship with his surroundings. Recent conservation work allows the murals to be displayed again in the Department of Creative Industries at Glyndwr University.
Estelle Thompson, Research Professor of Fine Art, and Marie Carter, Archivist of Gobowen Orthopaedic Hospital will present a talk on various aspects of Mildred Eldridge's remarkable achievement.
