Castle Forbes, Alford and the Standing Stones
Tour | Castle Forbes
Tuesday 19 July 2011 - 13:00 until 13:00
Castle Forbes is a private family home and there is a very lengthy history to this house. It has been owned and occupied by successive generations, except during World War II when it was requisitioned as a convalescent home for wounded servicemen. The castle is set in parkland and occupies a central position on the 6,000-acre Forbes estate with magnificent views across the River Don and the Vale of Alford.
Malcolm Forbes has offered to show us round some local standing stones of particular historical importance, and we plan to have lunch at Gadies Restaurant near Oyne. We suggest you arrange your own travel as it is not too much of a distance, and gives independence if the Standing Stones were not suitable for those who might find uneven ground difficult.
Lunch will be included in the ticket price.
