Coach Visit | Chippenham Park
Thursday 9 June 2011 - 09:00
Not normally open to the public, Chippenham Park is a magnificent house and garden set within a 350 acre walled park. It has been in family ownership since 1791. Although of earlier origins, the central part of the house is early 18th century, greatly enlarged in 1895 with an extra floor being added and the wings extended. The house is full of fascinating objects collected over many centuries. The gardens cover 15 acres and include an arboretum and kitchen garden. They are dotted with sculptures (many contemporary) and there are several canals, a Chinese-style bridge and ornamental trees and shrubs. The gardens recieved a top rating in the Good Gardens Guide in 2010. The owners, Eustace and Anne Crawley, will give a guided tour. Tea and cakes will be served at the end.
