Kinnaird Castle, Brechin

Visit | Kinnaird Castle

Tuesday 7 June 2011 - 13:00 until 13:00

This visit is a chance to see one of the most magnificent buildings around. The early history of Kinnaird is vague due to it being burnt down after the Battle of Brechin in 1452, and it has had a wonderful catalogue of dramas throughout the centuries. It was finally brought back into the family in 1764 and was transformed by Playfair into the large but handsome house that it is now. It was remodelled in the 1850s by Bryce but was largely damaged by fire in 1921. As David Southesk will tell us, it is remarkable that so much of the contents, including beautiful pictures and furniture, were saved.

There is also an absorbing history to be heard about the tiles involved with such an estate throughout history.
