The Ashmolean Museum

Wednesday 25 May 2011 - 09:00

The Ashmolean Museum has just completed an extraordinary project which has allowed it to double its display space. In its beautiful new building, nestling behind the familiar classical facade, are 39 new galleries, four temporary exhibition spaces, and a new education centre and state-of-the-art conservation studios. The museum's wonderful collections have been re-displayed to trace the journey of ideas and influences through time and across countries, transforming the way its rare and beautiful objects are understood. In the morning Tim Wilson, Keeper of Western Art, will give a talk about the collection, focussing on the items which The Art Fund has helped to acquire. In the afternoon there will be guided tours of the galleries and a chance to examine the works of art which Tim has talked about.
