Trewithen and Prideaux Place
Visit | Prideaux Place
Tuesday 10 May 2011 - 10:00 until 16:00
An opportunity to visit Prideaux Place, ancestral home to 14 generations of the Prideaux family since 1592. The house boasts a fine collection of royal and family portraits, furniture, and the Prideaux Porcelain Collection. A masterpiece of Elizabethan stucco was recently uncovered in the Great Hall and is now on view. The tour will also include the gardens and areas of the house which were used by the US army in WW2. A visit to Trewithen will follow where you may enjoy a cafe lunch or picnic (at your own expense). Trewithen--one of Cornwall's finest eighteenth-century houses-- has an impressive array of art objects on display which have been collected by the Hawkins family for over 300 years. The gardens will also be visited; they are famed for a May bloom of camelias and rhodedendrons.
